Where is Al-Hammah Located?

The village of El Hamma, El Hamma de l’Arad called, because the oasis level is located in Arad, a locality in the West of the city of Gabés. The city is located in southern Tunisia and belongs to the province of Gabès. The town’s name comes from the word Hammam, which means bath (steam bath), because there are nearby natural artesian spring exits. The small town is not to be confused with the settlement El Hamma al Djerid – a small group of Oasis settlements in the Tunisian governorate Tozeur north of the city Tozeur – in the area of Bled el Djerid.

What Country is Al-Hammah in?

El Hamma is located about 30 kilometers west of the oasis town of Gabés on the main road (RN 16) between Gabés and Kébili. The place is located on the Eastern foothills of the Djebel Tebaga. The green areas of the Oasis are located in the northern parts of the city. Originally nomads of the tribe Beni Zid settled here. In the vicinity of the city of El Hamma there are extensive plants with date palm trees, which provide a source of income for a part of the population. Today, about 35 000 people live here. The water springs of the Oasis El Hamma are the largest groundwater reservoir between the Chott el Fedjadj and the city of Gabès.
