A few kilometers from the southwest border of Bavaria and narrow between Switzerland and Austria is Liechtenstein, a hereditary monarchy of a constitutional type founded on democratic and parliamentary principles. It is a small and precious pearl of Central Europe, covers an area of 160 km2, has 34,600 inhabitants and is one of the richest states in the world.

In 1382 the County of Vaduz was born. In 1699 the prince J Hann Adam Andreas buys the property of Schellenberg, and in 1712 the County of Vaduz. On 23 January 1719, Emperor Charles VI decreed that Counties d Vaduz and Schellenberg be promoted to Principality status under the name of Liechtenstein, in recognition of the services of Prince Anton Florian.

In 1806, the Principality was granted sovereignty, and the House of Liechtenstein, one of the oldest aristocratic families in Europe, still sits at the helm. Since 1989, power has been entrusted to Prince Hans-Adam II.
