Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country with no access to the sea and mainly mountainous, is a natural link between Central Asia and China.

After the Baltic Republics, Kyrgyzstan was the first Soviet country to abandon the presidential form of government in favor of a parliamentarian, following the popular riots that in April 2010 forced President Kurmanbek Bakiev into exile in Belarus.
