The following December, the country obtained, just like the United Kingdom before it, some concessions: it does not take part in the eurozone, European citizenship, police and judicial cooperation and the common defense policy. This crisis within the Union has led to the collective acceptance of the idea of a multi-speed Europe. The amended treaty was adopted on May 18, 1993, confirming an active but partial commitment of the Danes within the EU.
