Where is Cairns Located?

Cairns is located with its almost 160,000 inhabitants in the upper northeast of Australia and is thus located in the Tropical North region of Queensland, directly on the beautiful coral sea. Tropical warm sea, colorful underwater worlds, endless sandy beaches, mountains with stunning views, ancient rainforests, numerous waterfalls, torrential rivers and an extremely exotic wildlife.

In addition, Cairns is often referred to as Australia’s diving capital, since the distance to the Great Barrier Reef is quite low. But the city is also the ideal base for exploring the rainforests of the Wet Tropics of Queensland (of which almost 9, 000km2 is a World Heritage Site), the fertile Atherton Tablelands and the adventurous Cape York Peninsula.
