Where is Atlantic Ocean?
Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean in the world after the Pacific Ocean. According to geological findings, the Atlantic Ocean was formed about 150 million years ago and is thus considered the youngest of the world’s oceans.
The Atlantic ocean separates the Americas from Europe and Africa. It has a total area of 106, 2 km2 and covers one-fifth of the earth’s surface.
In addition to the natural connections between its many by-seas and the ocean, there are two large man-made connections in the Atlantic Ocean. These are the Suez Canal, which connects the European Mediterranean with the Red Sea, and the Panama Canal, which makes shipping from the American Mediterranean to the Pacific possible.
Due to its strong north and south orientation, the ocean is also divided into North and South Atlantic, the boundary for which is the 8th latitude north of the equator.
