Where is Tammany Trace?

Southern atmosphere, small-town charm and idyllic landscapes: This is the Tammany Trace! This popular bike path was originally part of the Illinois Central Railroad line, which the government acquired in the 1990s and was expanded into a beautiful bike path through donations and state aid.

It is thus the first “Rail to Trail” cycle path in Louisiana and has even been inducted into the Rail-Trail Hall of Fame. You can ride parts of the popular bike path or the entire piece there and back. There are exciting stops along the way, waiting for discovery. Among them are a popular brewery, playgrounds, a special candy store and, of course, the waterfront road along the huge Lake Pontchartrain that separates Louisiana’s Northshore (the name of the region through which the bike path passes) from New Orleans. The fastest way out of the “Big Easy” to the picturesque north coast of the lake leads over the longest bridge in the world leading over inland waters!

Our Tip:
Nice Views & cool Brews: on this Bike Tour is not only the mentioned brewery. Treat yourself to a freshly tapped as a reward on the way and taste your way through the local specialties! In the USA, unlike in our country, cyclists are not prohibited from drinking alcohol. Cheers!
