Where is Spanish Town Located?

Spanish Town is located just 20 kilometres west of Kingston 1 and has almost merged with the capital. The industrial zone of the capital already extends into Spanish Town. The village has around 100,000 inhabitants, many of whom live in large Slums on the outskirts of the city.

Spanish Town was founded in 1523 by the Spaniards, who at that time gave it the name Villa de la Vega– City in the plain. In 1655, the town was conquered by the British, who burned many of the Spanish buildings. They renamed the settlement Spanish Town and made it their capital. It was not until 1872 that Spanish Town was replaced as capital by Kingston 1.
