Where is Long Xuyen Located?

The rectangular city of Long Xuyen [4507] is located on the banks of the Bassac River, one of the great Mekong arms. As the capital of An Giang Province, which extends to Chau Doc on the Cambodian (Cambodia vietnam round trip) border, it is an important economic and Trade Center-and one of the richest cities in the Region. Long Xuyen connects the eastern and western parts of the Delta and is only a transit station for most travelers.

The city is proud to be the home of the second President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (vietnam halong Bay). Ton Duc Thang succeeded Ho Chi Minh after his death in 1969. His birthplace is on Ong Ho, the Tiger Island not far from Long Xuyen. The local tourist board is very fond of taking visitors to this place, but there is not much to see in the simple wooden house, which is still family-owned. Tiger and Panther do not live on Ong Ho for a long time; all in all it is very contemplative on the island. If you want, you can stay here with locals (Homestay).
To this day, the area around Long Xuyen is a center of the Hoa Hao Religion, a sect that played an important role in the history of South Vietnam (saigon Mekong delta phu quoc) (see P.186).
