Where is La Serena Located?

La Serena, the popular tourist town on the Panamericana motorway, exudes a special charm through the listed colonial style of its Old Town.

The location, lure directly on the Pacific ocean with white beaches for a swim (about 500km North of Santiago) and the entrance to the beautiful Valle del Elquí (Río Elquí), numerous guests from near and far in the area. At La Serena, the Chilean desert begins gradually and the city presents itself as an oasis in the dry environment.

In the heart of the city lies the “Plaza de Armas” with a remarkable Cathedral and several other churches, some with unusual church towers. “Santo Domingo” very close to the Plaza presents itself with a clock tower and a small garden with sea lion statues.

You can visit the “Museo Historico Regional” in the “CasaGonzález Videla”, which informs you about the life of former Chilean President Gabriel González Videla (1946-1952) and the history of the city.

Particularly interesting is the “Museo Arqueológic” (Archaeological Museum), with collections from the previous indigenous peoples, Diaguitas and Molle. From time to Time, exhibitions on the famous Easter Island are also shown.
