Where is Enchanted Rock State Park?

Of course there are a lot of interesting things to see in Texas. The landscape is very different: large forest areas in the Northeast, barren desert mountains in the southwest, infinite Plains in the West, the Gulf of Mexico on the east coast and the magnificent Texas Hill Country in the center. In the latter is the German – founded City of Fredericksburg and a very special tourist attraction-a huge rock overlooking hundreds of square kilometers: “Enchanted Rock”.

I’ve lived in Austin Texas for 30 years. That’s why it’s easy for me to go to Hill Country on Sundays and experience new sights again and again. (Or revisit old favorites.) The weather is mostly nice in Texas.

From Austin you drive about 1 1/2 hours to Fredericksburg and then another 20 minutes to Enchanted Rock State Park. There you pay 6 dollars admission and you are on the way to the summit. Depending on your age or physical condition, you can be up in 30 minutes or 2 hours (me) and admire the view. Interestingly, the parking wardens only let a certain amount of people through, so that the official path to the top does not become overpopulated. So it can happen to you in the high season that you wait up to an hour for admission. It is best to be there at 8 a.m. when the Park opens.
