Where is Doha Located?

Doha, today’s capital of Qatar, is located on a 7 km wide bay in the middle of the East Coast. The Bay is in a natural way through the offshore reef, through which only a fairway leads towards the port.

What Country is Doha in?

Until the beginning of the oil boom, about 65 years ago, there was only a small fishing village called Dona Al Bida with mud huts. There is nothing more to see. Doha is growing rapidly in area, but above all also in height. The Skyline is dominated by super-modern high-rise buildings, in between broad Boulevards with evergreen, irrigated central strips lead through the metropolis. Doha is a very green city with many palm trees, trees and bushes, for desert dwellers who only 2 generations ago still as nomads through the desert, this is an indescribable luxury.

The green areas are cast early in the morning, partly by fully automatic irrigation system, partly the watering water is still brought by water carts. At the major traffic junctions and roundabouts, fountains provide a little cooling. It is not for nothing that Doha literally means “shady tree”. According to another interpretation, al Dauha simply means “the Bay”.
