The Academy is responsible for the officer training of the USAF. It was founded in 1954 and is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Because the Air Force had too few academically trained personnel, a committee that had previously been established in 1947 to make the Air Force politically heard recommended the establishment of an independent Academy. four years later, on May 1, 1954, then U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Air Force Academy Act, laying the groundwork for its founding. The academy was inaugurated on 29 August 1958.
