Where is Sfax Located?

The city of Sfax – the former Roman Taparura in Tunisia is primarily a port and industrial city. The tourism is not very pronounced in this city, although Sfax, with its well-preserved Medina is a worthwhile sightseeing destination. The city is also the capital of the province of the same name. Sfax is located in the South of Tunisia, about 250 kilometers Southeast of Tunis on the Mediterranean sea. Today, it is the second largest city in Tunisia with about 335,000 inhabitants – up to 600,000 people live in the catchment area of the city.

Due to the well-preserved Medina (Old Town), Sfax is also a popular tourist destination and seaside resort, but more for local tourists in terms of its role as a seaside resort. However, the attractions in the Medina are absolutely first-rate and so you can only recommend this city for sightseeing. Among other things, scenes of the film “The English Patient” were shot in the Medina of Sfax.
