Connecticut is not necessarily the focus of European USA travelers, but for aviation-interested visitors, the approximately 200 Kilometer journey from New York or Boston to Windsor Locks is definitely worthwhile – and not only because of the rare Sikorsky flying boats on display in the New England Air Museum.
There are events that break your neck-or you emerge stronger from them. In October 1979, a Tornado touched down at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks and devastated large parts of the New England Air Museum (NEAM) collection. Planes like the huge Douglas C-133 Cargomaster with 50 tons of empty weight landed on its back and had to be scrapped.
