Where is Humboldt Redwoods State Park?

Humboldt Redwoods State Park, located 45 miles south of Eureka and 20 miles north of Garberville on Highway 101, covers nearly 53,000 acres of Land, over 17,000 of which are pristine old Coast Redwoods.

Founded in 1921 with the small Bolling Memorial Grove, the park has grown over the years and encompasses a diverse ecosystem, including the entire Bull Creek catchment and Rockefeller Forest, the largest remaining Redwood forest in the world. This is the third largest California State Park and protects an environment that is unique in the world. A variety of activities and facilities are available. On three different campsites, there are over 250 family camps, environmental camps, group camps, Hiking camps and a horse camp. More than 100 km of hiking trails await hikers, bikers and riders. The South Fork Eel River offers opportunities for fishing, boating and swimming. There are also many Day areas for picnicking, family activities or enjoying the unspoiled nature.

Some popular locations include the Founders Grove Nature Trail, the Giants Auto tour’s 32 Mile Avenue, and the Humboldt Redwoods Visitor Center. The visitor centre offers a variety of entertaining and educational exhibitions and activities, including a theatre, exhibitions, a bookshop and the famous Kellogg Travel Log. Auto Tour brochures are available at both ends of the Avenue of the Giants and at the Visitor Center.

During the summer season, interpretive activities such as nature walks, Junior Ranger programs and campfire programs take place daily. Humboldt Redwoods State Park hosts two Marathons each year, which take place on the first three weekends of May and October each year. These Marathons close two of the main roads for up to 6 hours through the Park. For more information or dates of these events, please call the Park.
