Where is Harar Located?

Away from the” historical Route ” in the east of the country lies within a 3,300-Meter-long mighty city wall Harar, the stronghold of the Ethiopian Muslims.

White plastered and nested houses, narrow alleys, countless mosques and shrines, colourful markets and women wrapped in colourful cloths are typical of the city.

In the east of the country, located on the edge of the great African Burrow, is Harar, the stronghold of the Ethiopian Muslims. The “White city” welcomes its visitors with a hint of incense in the narrow streets and everywhere towering minarets. A stroll through the winding streets leads past traditional town houses, countless mosques and colourful markets.

Founded in 1520, the ancient and holy city, with its 99 mosques, is the Muslim centre of Ethiopia and once served as a pilgrimage destination for Muslims from all over the world. The typical Indian and Arabic atmosphere, the everyday life of the inhabitants here.

The Muslim influence is most evident from the large mosques that dominate the entire cityscape. Nonetheless, in Harar, a peaceful Coexistence of religions, which has been recognized by the UNESCO “Cities for Peace prize”.
