Brief information the Waterpocket Fold, a 150-km-long rejection of the Earth, stretches from the Thousand Lakes mountains to the Colorado River near Powell. The Park was founded to protect this magnificent and colourful geological phenomenon and also to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of this area.

You should not miss the following attractions in the Park: a drive along Scenic Drive along the Waterpocket Fold, a visit to the Hickman bridge, a hike through the historic fruit gardens of Fruita (where you can also flick fruit) and a visit to the historic Gifford farm.
The Park is a Paradise for Backcountry hikers. Overnight stays outside the campsites are only possible with permission (available at the visitor centre).
Warning between June and October there are occasional spring floods which make the return journey impossible during hikes and even on unpaved roads. When travelling to the Backcountry, always take in advance weather observations and carry sufficient stock (food & water) with you.
