Maldives. They are formed by about 1900 islands grouped into 26 atolls. Located in the southwest of India, in the Indian Ocean.
Most of the islands are small (about 40 hectares) and have a maximum sea level of a couple of meters. Less than 20 per cent of the Maldives is inhabited, of which only about 70 per indigenous population.
The majority of this population (about 300,000 inhabitants) are engaged in fishing, the rest is dedicated to the main economic engine of this small republic: tourism. At present about half a million privileged are lucky enough to know this paradise.
