Cape Krusenstern National Monument was established in 1978. The area is a coastal plain on the Chukchi Sea in northwest Alaska. The landscape consists of lagoons, gently rolling hills, cliffs and 114 parallel beach walls, which were formed over the millennia by the changing coast of the Chukchi Sea.
Numerous archaeological sites in the National Monument offer valuable evidence of approximately 9,000 years of prehistoric human existence in this Region. Some of these sites are older than some famous remains from ancient Greek cultures.
