Niger is a state of central Sahara in South Africa. It is landlocked between Algeria, Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali.
Crossed to the South-West by the River Niger, it is a vast plateau essentially desert of 1.267 million km2, bordered to the South by savannas and interrupted in its northern part by a mountainous massif, the Aïr or Azbine. Capital : Niamey (775 000 inhabitants; more than one million for the urban area). Other major cities : Zinder (191,000 inhabitants), Maradi (164,000 inhabitants), Alaghsas (89,000). Total Population: 15.9 million. Administratively the country is divided into 8 regions (Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillaberi, Zinder) and one district, the urban community of Niamey.
