The political upheavals of 2011 set in motion a long process of transition in North Africa, with an uncertain outcome. Switzerland is committed to a more inclusive, prosperous and peaceful reason. As part of Switzerland’s 2021-2024 International Cooperation Strategy, Tunisia and Egypt are the two priority countries for the SDC.

North Africa is made up of countries with very different profiles that, due to their geopolitical importance and their proximity to Europe, are significant partners for Switzerland. All these countries face the same difficulties and situations of fragility: high unemployment, particularly among young people and women, corruption, gender discrimination, regional disparities and political, economic and social exclusion. Precarious security, economic stagnation and strong migratory flows complete the picture.
