Guinea Bissau is a state in West Africa, bordering the Atlantic Ocean and bordering Senegal and Guinea. An area of 36.125 km2, the country has a population of 1.63 million inhabitants (2012).
The capital, located on a swampy Coast, is Bissau (388,000 inhabitants). The other cities are of much lesser importance : Bafata (22,500 inhabitants), Gabu (14,000 inhabitants), Bissora (12,700 inhabitants), Bolama (10,700 inhabitants), etc.
Administratively, Guinea-Bisssau is divided into 9 regions (regioes) : Bafata, Biombo, Bissau, Bolama (or ” Bolama / Bijagos), Cacheu, Gabu, Oio, Quinara and Tombali.
