Argentina occupies the entire southeastern part of South America : the length, from North to South, is 3,500 km. Its surface area is 2,766,890 km2.
Argentina is therefore second only to Brazil in terms of the size of the South American States. Brazil is the only country in the world. It is a republic, with a population of 40.9 million (2009), divided into 23 provinces, to which is added an autonomous city (federal district), the capital of Buenos Aires. Other major cities: La Plata, Rosario,Cordoba, Tucuman, Mendoza, Santa Fe.
