Flag of Egypt

Egypt is a State in North-East Africa, with an area of 1 million km2 and a population of 83 million inhabitants (2009).

It is bounded on the North by the Mediterranean Sea; on the North-East by Israel and the Gaza Strip, to which it is joined by the Sinai Peninsula, where the highest point of the country is located (Mt. Catherine, 2629 m); on the East by the Red Sea; on the South by Sudan; whose boundary, except in the eastern part (Hala’ib Triangle) is provided by an ideal line a little to the south of the Tropic of Cancer and of Abu Simbel, on Lake Nasser, and leading to the desert of Libya; to the West, by this desert and by Libya.
