Where is Plaka?
Which city is Plaka?
Plaka is one of the most charming areas of Athens. The neighborhood is located under the acropolis and is teeming with activities, restaurants, shops and hotels.
One of the most fascinating places in Athens is the colorful and lively Plaka district, teeming with activities, restaurants and small shops, which is located right under the Acropolis. Along the small winding streets of Plaka overlook neoclassical palaces and classic houses that intoxicate the view with bougainvillea and jasmine.
Born as a working-class district, today Plaka is one of the major tourist destinations in the Greek capital: with a strong island flavor, thanks to the pedestrianization, the numerous cultural centers such as the Acropolis Museum, the Canellopoulos and the Museum of Greek Folk Instruments, as well as various monuments such as that of Lysicrates, a small but elegant round temple with six columns, it is the ideal place to walk. One of Plaka’s main activities is shopping in the many souvenir shops along Adrianou, Pandrosou and Hephaestou streets. Always try to bargain when you make your purchases because prices are generally higher and touristy. Most of Plaka’s hotels are small, family-run, and are located on beautiful pedestrian streets.
