Where Is Aconcagua Mountain?
Is Aconcagua the tallest mountain in the world?
Argentina and in particular the province of Mendoza has the privilege of owning one of the highest peaks in the world: Mount Aconcagua, which with its 6964 meters above sea level is the highest peak in the West and the Southern Hemisphere.
Located in the Aconcagua Provincial Park, the “Colossus of America” is a challenge of climbers from all over the world and the sports destination but also of contemplation of the nature of milliaia of tourists , who during its path will live the unique experience of the magnificence of this mountain.
The first complete ascent was made by the Swiss Matthias Zubringgen, who on 14th January 1897 managed to write one of the most beautiful pages in the history of ascents in the world, conquering the top of Aconcagua. At that time there were no shuns, maps, even marked paths, there was only the immensity of the mountain, the cold and the relentless winds that never fivefold.
Routes of Ascent
There are more than 33 variants to climb the top of the mountain, but only two main (and their variants) that are the most used: the so-called Normal Route (to the northwest) and the Polish Glacier Route.
