What Continent is Norway in?
Is Norway part of Asia Or Europe?
Norway is one of the Scandinavian countries, along with Sweden, Denmark and Iceland. Contrary to popular belief, Finland is not part of this group, Finnish being a language unrelated to the Scandinavian languages. Nevertheless, all of these countries are grouped together under the term Nordic countries.
Compared to other Nordic countries, Norway’s geography stands out in many ways. First of all by its extent: the distance that separates the southernmost point of the country (Kristiansand region) and the one located to the north-east (Kirkenes region) is indeed the same as that which separates the southernmost point … from Rome, about 1750 kilometers as the crow flies. In addition, Norway extends further north than any European country, since it is on its territory that the mythical cliff of the North Cape is located, often presented as the northernmost point of the continent.
Norway is also remarkable for its coast, lacerated by fjords along almost its entire length and bordered by countless islands, largely uninhabited. Along this coast, the sea also has the particularity of never freezing in winter. Norway owes this particularity to the Gulf Stream, this marine current that comes to bathe the European coasts and ensures them the temperate climate that we know. The coastal regions of Norway are thus warmer than other regions of the planet located at the same latitude. For example, winters are less severe in Tromsø, a coastal city in the north of the country and the “capital of the Northern lights”, than in some regions of the south of the country, inland.
