The Kingdom of Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands that are located in the Persian Gulf, off the northern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Although Shiites make up the majority of the population, the country’s 1.5 million inhabitants have a very diverse ethnic and religious background. The official language is Arabic and the country gained independence in 1971 and became a constitutional monarchy in 2002.

Its central location in the region and good relations with neighbouring countries have made Bahrain one of the main diplomatic players in the region. In 2020, it was among the first Arab countries to ratify the Abraham Accords, becoming together with the United Arab Emirates the third Arab country to recognize the State of Israel after Egypt and Jordan.

Like the other countries in the Gulf Region, Bahrain has very close relations with Italy, quantifiable at about $ 590 million in 2021. Along with Oman, Bahrain is the only Gulf country whose main exports to Italy – mainly made up of crude aluminum and aluminum products – are not related to oil. Today, economic and commercial relations are mainly focused on the construction sector and in the metallurgical sector, in particular in the production and processing of aluminum. It should be noted that, at the level of exports to the kingdom, the food and fashion sectors are of particular interest.
