Venezuela is a state of South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and bordering Colombia, Brazil and Guyana.
It is a federal republic with an area of 912,050 km2 and a population of 26.8 million inhabitants (2009). It is divided administratively into 23 states (estados; singular: estado), 1 Federal district (distrito federal) Where is located the capital Caracas, and 1 federal dependency (dependencia federal), which consists of 11 groups of islands (in total 72 islands) under federal administration. In addition to Caracas, the major cities of Venezuela are : Maracay, Valencia, Barquisimeto, Maracaibo, etc.
