Flag of Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is a state of Central Asia, bordered to the West by the Caspian Sea and enclosed between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

With a surface area of 488,100 km2, the country is populated by 5 million inhabitants and is divided for its administration into an independent city, the capital Ashgabat and 5 provinces (welayatlar): Ahal Welayaty (capital: Anew), Balkan Welayaty (ch.-the.’ : Balkanabat), Dashoguz Welayaty, Lebap Welayaty (ch.-the.’ : Türkmenabat), Mary Welayaty.
