Colombia is a state of South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and bordering Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador.

An area of 1,138,910 km2, Colombia has a population of 45.6 million inhabitants (2009). It is a Republic; Divided administratively into 32 departments (departamentos; singular : departamento) and a capital district (distrito capital), Bogotá. Besides the capital, the major cities are : Medellin, Cali, Bucaramanga, Cucuta, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Manizales, Ibagué, etc.
