Where is Hoggar Mountains?

We are in the deep south of Algeria in the area of Tamanrasset, the last Saharan town before the borders with Niger and Mali, the mythical Tam destination for all Saharan travelers. From Tamanrasset traveling by off-road on track or on foot following the dromedaries, you arrive in the Hoggar mountain massif, a set of volcanic peaks about the size of our region.

Climbing the Hoggar means reaching the top of the Assekrem where there is the hermitage of Father Charles de Foucauld, the French religious who in 1901 came to Algeria and later to Tamanrasset which was a remote village located along the Tamanrasset.
The Father went up to the Assekrem and retired there for a few months.
The small house with still the library and the stone altar where Charles de Foucauld mpagnia of the Little Brothers of Jesus.
The hermitage is located in the summit plateau of the Assekrem from which we can see a 360 panorama
The atmosphere is mystical both for the incomparable beauty by which we are surrounded and for the story of the Father who left his mark here.
I climbed several times on the Assekrem in winter with an intense cold and in summer season in which between these mountains there is a pleasant coolness and….surprise an enchanting bloom of wild begonias that tinge the rocks red.
