Sudan is an Arab-African state
located in the northeastern part of Africa.
It overlooks the Red Sea and the Arabian Peninsula and has an area of
equal to 1,886,068 km2.
It borders Egypt to the north, the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea and
Ethiopia to the east, with South Sudan to the south, with the Republic
central African Republic to the southwest, with Chad to the west and Libya to the northwest.
The territory is mostly flat and the north is predominantly
desert; descending to the south you meet a steppe territory that
in its central part it leaves room for the savannah; the southern part is
instead green, humid and covered with extensive swampy expanses.
The climate is very hot everywhere: the rainfall increases progressively
starting from the Northern desert areas up to the maximum values in the
southern savannas.
Nilo The Nile completely crosses the country from south to north and is for Sudan
equally important for Egypt, both for transport, and for the
possibility of irrigating the arid lands touched by its course.
The most fertile area, intensely cultivated, is that between the Nile
White and Blue Nile, which gather near the capital.
The capital is Khartoum; the city is located in the east center of the country and
this enjoys a thriving economy and features a population of 5
millions of inhabitants.
