Nigeria, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is located in the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa. The main cities are concentrated in the southern plains. The central part of the country is formed by hills and plateaus. To the north it is mainly occupied by arid plains. The neighboring countries are Benin, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Nigeria is roughly divided into these three regions by the Niger and Benue rivers, which run through the country from northeast to southwest, and then flow into the center of the country, not far from the new federal capital Abu. At this point the two united rivers flow south in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean, at whose meeting they create the Niger Delta.
