Where is Amana Colonies? What county are the Amana Colonies in?

Where is Amana Colonies?

What does that have to do in the middle of Iowa? That was my first thought when I discovered this sign on the side of the road.

I am curious and decide to follow the branch, because I have never heard of the Amana Colonies before. A short time later I reach the town of Amana, where I first drive to the Visitor Center. There I hope to find out what the Amana Colonies are all about. When I go in, German language catches my eye everywhere. This promises to be interesting. I am always looking for German heritage in the USA.
