Where is U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum?

The expressively designed building serves not only memory, it should also be a centre of education and dialogue. Its disc-like floor plan measures 61 m at its widest point, covers 4,924 m2 and has two storeys above ground.

These are divided into a round core surrounded by a ring-like Lobby. On the outside there is another partial circle. It forms a public entrance to an inner courtyard-like roof terrace. This cuts to the southwest around a floor height into the inclined, extensively green roof surface. To the Northeast, it offers a view of the Scioto River, which flows directly in front of it, and the city center of Columbus behind it.

Three concentric in-situ concrete rings
The shape of the terrace is reminiscent of an amphitheatre. Due to its slope, the rising green roof is accessible from the southern flank. Three large concrete block steps are arranged on the courtyard-like Terrace Northwest Side. The design by Allied Works Architecture from Portland, Oregon, is based on three concentric in-situ concrete rings. The curved wall sequences developed as free forms consist of exciting arches and supporting structures up to 43 M wide, which are responsible for the striking appearance of the museum. The roof and false ceilings are formed from a system of interconnected steel beams and steel composite ceilings, which were laid cross-braced to the reinforced concrete rings.
