Flag of Hungary

Hungary is a central European state with an area of 93 000 km2 and a population of 9.9 million. The exclusively continental country, like its neighbours Austria and the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia; it is also bordered by Croatia, Romania, Slovenia and Ukraine.

No natural border, except the Danube, on part of its necks in the upper Hungarian Plain separates it from these neighbours. Republic, member of the European union since 2004, Hungary is a parliamentary democracy divided administratively into 19 provinces (I go; singular: County); 25 urban districts (county varos)and a capital city (fovaros), Budapest. Apart from Budapest, the major cities are: pecs, Miskolc, Debrecen.
