During World War II, “Lexington” sank in the Pacific. Now a diving team of Microsoft founder Paul Allen has tracked down the aircraft carrier at a depth of 3000 meters. Some of the aircraft that went down with it can also be seen.

The battle in the Coral Sea lasted four days. On 4 May 1942, the fleets of the Americans and the Japanese met north of Australia. For the first time in Naval War history, aircraft carriers also fought each other.

Eight ships were sunk during the battles, 1600 soldiers were killed. The Americans lost the aircraft carrier “Lexington”, the ship sank on 8 May 1942 to the bottom of the Pacific.

Now a search ship of Microsoft founder Paul Allen has discovered the wreck. The site in the so-called Coral Sea lies 800 kilometres off the east coast of Australia.
