Where is Thomas Jefferson Memorial?

It was one of the American founding fathers. The authoritative author of the Declaration of independence. The first US Secretary of state under George Washington. And the third American President. Thomas Jefferson was an important man and the Memorial should honor him accordingly.

When you get off the Bus here, you’ll see a classically elegant structure over the Potomac River. This beautiful dome was commissioned in 1934 by Franklin Roosevelt, an admirer of Jefferson. Inside the dome are inscriptions with quotes from Jefferson’s life, including excerpts from the declaration of independence.

From plaster to Bronze

The statue of Thomas Jefferson inside the monument is 5.8 meters high. It was originally cast in plaster. All metal was rationed during the Second World War. After the end of the war it was replaced by the bronze statue, as it can be seen today.
