Rustenburg is a city in the North West province located 100 km northwest of Johannesburg. The town is located at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range, on the Highveld Plateau at an altitude of 1,170 m.a.s.l. The city has just over a hundred thousand inhabitants, but its metropolitan area exceeds five hundred thousand inhabitants.

Founded in 1851 by Boer settlers, Rustenburg is one of the oldest settlements in northern South Africa.
