A district of England (United Kingdom) of the county of Mid-Glamorgan, located in the S of the country, in the Country of Wales. Its population in the early nineties was 76,300 inhabitants. The district, which was created in 1974 and occupies an area of 101 km2, comprises a number of small towns stretching along the valleys that form the Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach rivers.
