What County is Reading?

Reading is the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania. The city was founded in 1748 by two sons, William Penns. Reading’s iron industry was already more productive at the time of the war of independence than the whole of England’s iron industry. In 1833, the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad (P&R RR) reached the city, which at that time was still mostly inhabited by German. Until 1960, there were regular German-language radio programs.

In 1972, a desastrous flood occurred, from which the city has basically never recovered. With the economic decline the crime rate increased. The most famous building is the well-visible Pagoda. From Pottsville comes not only the beer of the oldest family brewery in the USA, the brewery D. G. Yuengling & Son, founded in 1829 and still owned by the founding family, but also the shirts of the production Phillips Van Heusen.
