What County is Racine?

Around 1834, the area of the present city of Racine was populated by settlers from the state of New York. Racine had been strict against slavery even before the Civil War. In 1854, a slave escaped in Racine was freed from the population by a storm of prison. After the Civil War, many Danes, Germans and Czechs settled in the city. The city of Racine claims to be the largest Danish settlement in North America outside Greenland, at least many Danish peaches have survived.
