Located in the resort area of Poipu, the beach is close to some of the best shops, Restaurants and golf courses in Kauai. It is one of the most popular and safest beaches on the island.

The inviting seawater of Poipu attracts numerous visitors and residents and offers a species-rich underwater world. From December to May you can occasionally see humpback whales from the beach. Large Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) are also native to these waters. Poipu Beach, however, is mainly famous for the endangered Hawaiian monk seals that sometimes bask on the coast. There are only about 1,200 Hawaiian monk seals left, many of which live in the waters off Kauai. Please always stay behind the barriers and warning signs, or keep a distance of at least 50 m to these 180 to 270 kg heavy animals, if there are no signs. They are not allowed to feed the monk seals.
