Brief information the Park is located on the edge of the Painted Desert, the colourful desert (northern part of the park). To the Park differs from many other Parks, that it does not simply protect natural formations, but with the petrified wood to be found here a special natural phenomenon (southern part).
Visitors annually 830,000 visitors (an average of 2,300 daily); main visit period is from June to August

What city is Petrified Forest?
Opening hours the Park is open daily from 7.30 am to 5.00 pm. The Park is closed at night.
In Winter, the Park Road is occasionally wg. Snow closed.
Getting there starting point is Holbrook with Greyhound connection. From Holbrook irregular guided tours to and through the Park. Otherwise, the arrival is only possible with your own car (I 40 and partly US 180). In the Park, no public transport.

Adventure both parts of the park are connected by the 43 km long, tarred Scienic Drive. The pure driving time through the Park is less than 60 Minutes.
With the Painted Desert, the northern part encompasses a deserted landscape worth seeing. The Painted Desert Inn used to be a carriage station. Today it is listed as a monument and houses a Museum.
In the southern part of the Crystal Forest is the world’s largest collection of petrified trees. There are also short or long hiking trails.
Note although the souvenir shops in the Park sell petrified wood, nevertheless the idiosyncratic transport of petrified wood is placed under heavy penalty.
