Owensboro calls itself the world’S BBQ capital. Every second weekend in May, the BBQ Festival takes place here. The city was founded in 1817. In 1910, the Carriage Woodstock Company started production of Ames vehicles (until 1915). In 1936, the last public execution took place in the United States with the hanging of Rainey Bethea. A year later, Owensboro became the seat of a Roman Catholic bishop. The international Bluegras Music Museum is also located in Owensboro.
