Makeyevka is a city in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. Until 1931 it was called Dmitrievsk. The history of the city begins in 1690 with Cossack settlements located at the junction of the Yekaterinoslav province and the lands belonging to the Don Army. By order of the Azov provincial Chancellery, the scattered dugouts were transformed into a military settlement. In 1787, the Makeyevka settlement was founded on the site of the settlement, which by 1815 became the center of the newly created parish.

By the end of the XIX century, coal deposits were discovered and actively developed on the lands of Makeyevskaya volost. New enterprises are being built, a mining and processing district is being formed. The village of Dmitrievsky, with a cultural and commercial-industrial center, becomes the basis of the future city of Makeyevka.
