Where is Lucas Oil Stadium?

Address: 500 S Capitol Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46225
Capacity: 70,000
Opened: August 16, 2008
Height: 270′

For the first time in its recent history, Lucas Oil Stadium will host the world’s largest single-sport event on February 5. Then the New England Patriots and the New York Giants face each other in the final game of Super Bowl XLVI.

The stadium was opened in 2008 as the successor to the demolished RCA Dome and is therefore also the home of the Indianapolis Colts. The construction costs are reported at 720 million US dollars, taking into account Inflation, this would be 735 million dollars (565 million euros) today. The stadium has a capacity of 63,000 spectators.

Striking about the sports facility designed by the well-known architectural firm HKS is the exterior facade, which is made of Indiana’s typical red sandstone and encloses the stadium body like a large, old factory hall. On the front, a wide, mobile window is embedded, measuring 74 by 27 meters and can be opened in good weather. Lucas Oil Stadium is also currently the only one in the NFL with a lockable roof that is based on a system comparable to that of the Schalker Veltins Arena. When opened, a 1.8-hectare “hole” is created in the sports facility. However, the NFL requires it to either be closed at least 90 minutes before the start of the game or be open for the entire duration of the game.

The Hospitality areas have also been designed on a large scale. There are 137 suites and lodges spread over two floors, several Restaurants, exhibition areas and conference rooms. Parking is possible not only next to the Lucas Oil Stadium, but also on two floors below the surface.
