Lion Country Safari, located in Loxahatchee near Wellington, opened its doors in 1967 and is now considered one of the most popular destinations in South Florida. The Lion Country Safari, founded by English and South African businessmen, was the first animal park in the United States to allow visitors to drive through the Drive-through Safari Park, a five-mile drive that allowed them to get up close and personal with almost free-living animals. Today, the Safari Park is home to more than 1,000 animals.
